At the VA Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY we are seeking a skilled Histotechnician to join our team on a federal contract basis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination by pathologists and will ensure that all histological procedures are performed efficiently and accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
– Prepare and process tissue samples for examination and diagnosis.
– Embed tissue samples in paraffin for sectioning.
– Cut tissue sections using a microtome and mount them on slides.
– Stain tissue sections using various histological techniques.
– Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
– Document and maintain records of specimens and procedures.
– Collaborate with pathologists and other medical staff to ensure high-quality diagnostic results.
– Follow established protocols and procedures for histological processing.
– Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to histological procedures.
Qualifications:
– Must be a U.S. citizen.
– Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Histotechnician.
– Certification as a Histotechnician through ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists) is required.
– Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
– Effective communication skills.
Schedule:
– Monday to Friday day schedule, ensuring a work-life balance.
